Thornhill demolition: identify the municipality before applying

Thornhill is a community name used on both sides of a municipal boundary. It is useful for finding service coverage, but it is not enough to identify the building department responsible for your property.

Use the property, not the postal label

Vaughan describes Thornhill as divided between Vaughan and Markham along Yonge Street. Confirm your specific property through municipal records, especially where a mailing label or online listing simply says Thornhill. Keep the civic address and municipality together in your enquiry.

Separate coverage from permission

A contractor serving Thornhill is not confirming which approval applies. Once the municipality is established, send the proposed scope to its building department. An interior removal, whole-building teardown and change to an attached structure may raise different questions.

  • Use the civic address shown in your property documents.
  • Name the municipality confirmed for that parcel.
  • Include the building or unit identifier where the address serves several occupants.

Before asking for an assessment

Tell Steelpoint what is coming out and which municipality is handling the application. If that remains unconfirmed, say so. We can discuss serviceability while you resolve the jurisdiction; a postal prefix should not be used to manufacture a permit answer.
