How we deliver it
Most concrete jobs start with a decision about the tool. Our photos show the two we use most. On pool decks and flatwork, a compact track loader with a hydraulic breaker splits the slab into pieces that can be lifted by hand or loaded by machine. For interior floors and heavier work, a mini excavator with a breaker or bucket gets in close, as it does in the photo of the floor slab with the rebar exposed.
Around a pool, the priority is protecting what stays. The breaker works from the outside edge inward so pieces fall away from the water, and the coping and pool shell are left alone unless they're part of the scope. The same thinking applies next to a house, a fence or a retaining wall: we break toward open ground.
Broken concrete is stacked and loaded as clean fill wherever possible. Keeping it free of wood, soil and garbage is what lets it go to a crushing facility and come back as aggregate. When concrete is mixed with other waste, it costs more to dispose of and usually ends up in landfill.
Rebar and wire mesh are cut out and sent for scrap. Once the concrete is gone, the base underneath is checked. If the next step is new concrete, pavers or sod, we leave the area at the grade you've asked for.
Before breaking starts, we arrange utility locates through Ontario One Call for any work that goes below the surface.
Access decides a lot on concrete jobs. Backyard pool decks and patios are often reached through a side gate, so we measure it at the site visit and choose a machine that fits without damaging the lawn or fence on the way in.

What to expect
- 01
Look at the concrete
We check thickness, reinforcing, access and what's around it.
- 02
Written scope
The scope sets out what comes out, the equipment and how the area will be left.
- 03
Locates and protection
Underground locates are requested and nearby surfaces are protected.
- 04
Break and load
Concrete is broken, rebar cut out and clean concrete loaded separately.
- 05
Grade and clean up
The base is left at the agreed grade and the site swept clear.

Frequently asked questions
- Can you remove a pool deck without damaging the pool?
- We assess the deck, its connections and the condition of the pool before agreeing on the removal method. Identify the coping, shell and services that must remain, and agree on any repair or making-good work separately. Hidden connections or existing damage can affect what is possible; a site visit is needed before confirming the scope.
- Is concrete recycled?
- Clean concrete, kept free of wood and garbage, can go to a crushing facility and be reused as aggregate. That's why we keep it separate on site.
- Do I need a permit to remove a driveway or patio in Vaughan?
- Removing flatwork on your own property usually doesn't need a building permit, but work that touches the City boulevard or changes a driveway entrance can need City approval. We'll point you to the right department if your job does.
- Can you break out a concrete floor inside a building?
- Yes. A mini excavator with a breaker fits through most large doorways and loading bays, as in our interior slab photo. We check the floor's thickness and what's below it before we start.
