Vaughan demolition beside a Regional road: who handles the road interface?

  • Vaughan

An on-site demolition scope and an activity affecting the road are separate planning questions. Before proposing a truck queue, temporary occupation or equipment position outside the property, establish which authority controls that part of the road.

Sketch the proposed activity accurately

Show the property line, the access point and the space the proposed operation would use. Distinguish vehicle entry from storage or occupation outside the property. Do not assume the building permit answers a road-use question.

Ask the responsible road authority

York Region provides road-use and construction permit information for Regional roads. Confirm whether your frontage is under Regional or municipal control, then describe the actual activity. The useful answer addresses the proposed location and use, not simply whether demolition is permitted on the parcel.

  • Identify the road name and site frontage.
  • Explain any proposed occupation beyond the property.
  • Assign a contact to resolve road conditions before scheduling.

Before asking for an assessment

Include confirmed road constraints in the demolition enquiry. If the authority requires a separate plan or approval, record who is arranging it. Steelpoint's site assessment can then work with the permitted access arrangement rather than an assumed space on the road.
