Between demolition and excavation: assign water-management responsibility
- Ground and access
Published

When demolition finishes before the next ground-work contractor arrives, responsibility for the site can become unclear. Discuss who monitors and manages the agreed interim condition, particularly where below-ground areas remain open.
Describe the actual interval
Identify the expected handover date, the next contractor and any period with no active construction. Ask the design and site-management team what interim arrangements are required. Do not assume a demolition completion date transfers every site-care duty automatically.
Keep water questions with the responsible parties
Record who handles observations, calls the appropriate contractor and authorises any necessary response. Any proposed pumping, discharge or grading needs the relevant professional and authority input. This guide does not prescribe a discharge route or promise water-control services.
- Name the site controller after demolition.
- Identify the contact for unexpected water conditions.
- Record the planned condition accepted at handover.
Define the next decision
Include the handover interval in the clearing enquiry. Steelpoint can agree its scope and completion boundary with the owner, while later monitoring and ground work are assigned explicitly. An unstaffed interval should be a planned responsibility, not an assumption.
