Vaughan demolition and site alteration: separate the scope lines

Removing a building and changing the land around it are related activities, but they should not be hidden inside one phrase such as clear the lot. A useful enquiry describes the structure, surface removal and intended ground condition separately.

Write the ground work in plain terms

List whether the request includes removing a slab, moving soil, bringing in fill or changing levels. If the future grading design is undecided, say that. A contractor cannot use a demolition description to infer the final drainage arrangement for a rebuild.

Confirm the relevant approval path

Vaughan's site-alteration information addresses changes to land grade and movement of fill. Ask the City how your proposed ground work is to be handled alongside the demolition approval. Keep the response with the plans rather than assuming one permission covers every activity.

  • Separate building removal from soil movement.
  • Identify the drawing that defines intended levels.
  • State whether imported material is part of the request.

Before asking for an assessment

Request an assessment against those separate scope lines. Where grading remains unresolved, the quote discussion should identify an interim stopping point. That makes it clear what demolition completion means before later site-alteration or construction work begins.
