Production-line removal and building demolition: define the interface

  • Commercial coordination

When a production line is being recovered before a building comes down, the recovery programme and demolition programme need a clear meeting point. Equipment departure alone may not complete the preparatory work.

List what the recovery team leaves behind

Ask for a description of residual supports, anchors, service runs and openings. Identify items the recovery contractor intends to retain or remove. Do not let equipment ownership determine the structural or service status of anything left attached to the building.

Agree evidence of completion

Name who confirms that the recovery scope is complete and identifies outstanding items. The demolition team should receive a dated status against the agreed list, including exceptions. This is more useful than an undated message saying the machinery is gone.

  • Describe residual connections and supports.
  • Identify trades responsible for remaining service work.
  • Record changes made during equipment recovery.

Bring this decision to the site assessment

Send the recovery scope and expected residual condition to Steelpoint. Specialist equipment dismantling is not automatically included in structural demolition. A clear interface allows each contractor to price and schedule the work it actually controls.
