Roof-mounted equipment: assign responsibility before demolition

  • Structural assessment

A rooftop unit can involve equipment ownership, service disconnection and structural questions at once. Listing it simply as included in the building can leave those responsibilities unresolved when demolition is scheduled.

Create an equipment-by-location list

Use existing plant records and safe ground-level observations. Identify equipment to be recovered by others, equipment proposed for disposal and items whose ownership is unclear. Record roof access restrictions; do not climb onto an unassessed roof to obtain serial numbers.

Link removal responsibility to the building assessment

The design and demolition teams need to know what loads remain and what preparatory work others propose. Arrange the sequence through the responsible professionals and contractors. An equipment collection booking is not evidence that the roof can support the intended operation.

  • Name the equipment owner and recovery contact.
  • Identify the trade responsible for disconnection.
  • Confirm who assesses roof access and removal arrangements.

The decision to carry into your enquiry

Give Steelpoint the equipment status alongside the building scope. Treat specialist recovery or lifting as a separate item requiring agreement, not an automatic inclusion. The immediate goal is a clear responsibility list before the structural demolition programme is set.
