Warehouse mezzanine removal: establish what the structure serves

A mezzanine may support storage, offices or equipment and may connect to other building elements. Before proposing its removal, establish its role and the intended condition of the space below and around it.

Gather use and installation records

Identify the current use, any known changes and the available structural drawings. Mark stairs, enclosures and services connected with the mezzanine. A supplier's product description is useful background, but the assessment needs the installed condition and any later alterations.

Define the retained warehouse

State what will remain operational after removal. Ask the project professionals to identify effects on adjoining construction and required follow-on work. Keep structural assessment separate from a tenant's wish to create more floor space.

  • Identify items stored above and below.
  • Show connected stairs and enclosures.
  • Name who approves the post-removal building arrangement.

What to resolve before scheduling

Use a selective-demolition enquiry and flag the mezzanine explicitly. Steelpoint should receive the approved removal extent and relevant engineering before a method is agreed. This is not a claim that mezzanine removal can be treated as ordinary fixture disposal.
